👶 The point of no return!! 👶

Ok I know it SOUNDS bad….but the point of no return is actually GOOD (when it comes to birth)! Let’s break it down 👇

During labor, your uterus continuously contracts and then relaxes over and over until your baby is born (these are “contractions”).

Well, during the pushing phase your body continues to have contractions to help push your baby down but YOU also PUSH your baby downward to help propel baby OUT!

However, between contractions when the uterus relaxes…. if you’re not actively bearing down, the baby’s head recedes slightly (I call it “getting sucked back up” lol). This is NORMAL!

But towards the end, there comes a point when baby’s head stays put after you stop pushing! This is called CROWING aka “the point of no return.” 💃

And one thing’s for sure - once you hit this point, you are so close to having that sweet baby in your arms ❤️

What is/was your worst third trimester symptom?! 👇
1210 30 instagram icon
👉 Did you know that approximately 1 in 3 moms in the U.S. are induced? That's a pretty big percentage!

Inductions are a hot topic in the L&D world!

There is a lot of information floating around, both positive and negative, and it seems like every person has their own, differing opinion.

Let's go over some of the reasons as to why you might be induced:

🤰 You’re overdue: Most practices consider this to be past 41 weeks, but some wait even longer, up until 42 weeks

🤰 Gestational hypertension: This is the condition of high blood pressure during pregnancy

🤰 Preeclampsia: This is a pregnancy complication that involves high blood pressure and other signs of organ damage

🤰 Gestational diabetes: Not everyone with GDM will be induced, it has to do with how well your blood sugars were controlled during pregnancy

🤰 Growth issues (IUGR/Macrosomia): This is when baby isn’t growing as quickly as expected, usually characterized as being below the 10th percentile for gestational age based on an ultrasound

🤰 Prolonged premature rupture of membranes (PPROM): You’ve broken your water early in your pregnancy - in this case induction is usually recommended around 34-35 weeks, unless medical condition warrants earlier induction

🤰 History of third trimester stillbirth: This is usually offered as sort of an elective induction because it’s been shown to reduce the risk of a subsequent stillbirth

🤰 Cholestasis: This is a liver condition that can occur in the third trimester. The most common symptom is extreme itching in the hands and feet

🤰 Oligohydramnios/Polyhydramnios: These are conditions that have to do with the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding baby

🤰 Placental abruption: When the placenta prematurely separates from the inner wall of the uterus. Not all placental abruptions require induction, it depends on the severity of the abruption and in extreme cases may require an emergency C-section

While sometimes necessary, it's crucial for to understand the process, discuss options with your provider, and make informed decisions tailored to what works best for you!
